Description
Cape Lookout appears desolate on a cold winter day. Built in 1859, the Cape Lookout Lighthouse is located on Core Banks and stands 163 feet high. It is the only major lighthouse that operates during the day and flashes every 15 seconds. The light was automated in 1950 and is visible up to 20 miles. There are a total of 216 steps to the lantern room. The black diamond patterns indicate North & South, and the white diamonds point East & West.
