Artist's Description

Female mallards are far less colorful than their male counterparts. Their plumage is an overall mottled brown-buff. Hens have a bright orange bill smudged with a variable amount of black, but the nail on the tip of the bill is always black. This bland coloration serves female mallards well, as it provides good camouflage for tending a nest and caring for hatchlings.

About Dan Williams

Dan Williams

Hello and welcome to my site. I hope you enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed photographing the subjects in them. While many of my images are of waterfowl, you will also find other coastal subjects such as lighthouses, wild ponies, boats, sunrises and sunsets, and a variety of other subjects as I add to this site. I am a native of coastal North Carolina. Living on the Crystal Coast of our State affords many opportunities to photograph interesting and beautiful wildlife, as well as a variety of other unique subjects and features of this area. Please take time and enjoy the photographs. "Lookout Images" - photography by Daniel E. Williams.
