Description
Hurricane Florence was a powerful and long-lived storm that caused severe damage in the Carolinas in September 2018, primarily as a result of freshwater flooding.
Despite making landfall as a weakened Category 1 hurricane, Florence still had enough wind speed to uproot trees and cause widespread power outages throughout the Carolinas.
Florence made landfall in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina on September 14. The storm moved very slowly and heavy rains continued to affect the Carolinas after landfall.
Morehead City is about 90 miles north of Wrightsville Beach. Wind and rain caused damage and flooding to parts of Morehead City and Atlantic Beach Friday morning, Sept. 14, 2018
A 10-foot storm surge was reported at Morehead City. At least 20 inches of rain has been recorded in two locations.
